Fictional Character
"Shtetl Days"
POD: c. 1940
Type of Appearance: Direct
Nationality: Germany
Religion: Judaism (converted)
Occupation: Actor, Melamed
Affiliations: Village of Wawolnice
In the village of Wawolnice, Albach-Retty played the part of "Alter Kaczyne".

Wolf Albach-Retty was a German actor. He was one of the historical re-enactors who performed as a Jew at the tourist village of Wawolnice in the mid-21st Century. He played Alter Kaczyne, the village melamed. Many of his young students were the children of the re-enactors.

One day after work, Albach-Retty told fellow re-enactor Veit Harlan and Kristi Söderbaum that a tourist had exposed her breasts to him, which made teaching very difficult.

Like many others in the village, Albach-Retty soon came to identify with his Jewish character.

Literary commentEdit

Wolfgang "Wolf" Albach-Retty (1906-1967) was an OTL Austrian actor. However, he did not appear in Suss the Jew (1940), the Nazi "hate film" which provided the names for three other main characters in "Shtetl Days".
