The fragment is written in the form of a non-fiction historical monograph. The authors begin with an "introduction" written in-universe, explaining how they decided to write a book about the Kennedy Administration from the date of the near-assassination of Kennedy, and the subsequent impeachment of 1966. The monograph "relies" on the notes of the two reporters who first broke the "story" which began the impeachment: Chuck Duncan and Alan Lefkowitz. Both reporters are fictional, but are inspired by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the historical reporters whose investigation the Watergate break-in helped bring down the Nixon Administration.
