Winter of Our Discontent: The Impeachment and Trial of John F. Kennedy is an alternate history novel by writer Bryce Zabel. Initially, Harry Turtledove was co-author. Zabel completed the novel on his own and it was published under the title Surrounded by Enemies: What if Kennedy Survived Dallas? in July 2013. Turtledove wrote the forward for the novel.
The project was launched online to test as to whether or not the project would be sold as either a novel or a film. The first three chapters were published in 2007. Certain articles at this wiki were created in anticipation of this novel's possible completion. However, as Turtledove left the project, the administrators of this wiki will not be creating anymore articles for this book.
Summary of the published chaptersEdit
The fragment is written in the form of a non-fiction historical monograph. The authors begin with an "introduction" written in-universe, explaining how they decided to write a book about the Kennedy Administration from the date of the near-assassination of Kennedy in Dallas, and the subsequent impeachment of 1966. The monograph "relies" on the notes of the two reporters who first broke the "story" which began the impeachment: Chuck Duncan and Alan Lefkowitz. Both reporters are fictional, but are inspired by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the historical reporters whose investigation the Watergate break-in helped bring down the Nixon Administration.
