Vinaròs (Catalan; Spanish: Vinaroz) is a town in the eastern coast of Spain, right in the border between the provinces of Castellón and Tarragona.

During the Spanish Civil War, it was the first Mediterranean population to be occupied by Nationalist forces in Apil15, 1938, splitting the area controlled by the Spanish Republic in two.

Vinaròs in The War That Came Early Edit

Vinaroz was reconquered by Republican forces in late 1938, following their victory in the Battle of the Ebro. A later Nationalist counterattack backed by Italian troops failed to take it back.

By February 1939 the region around Vinaroz was secure enough for the eastern railway to be operative, transporting Republican forces between Catalonia and Madrid.
