The USS Lamson was a pre-Great War U.S. Navy destroyer. She was old enough to be powered by coal rather than fuel-oil. When new, the Lamson could make 28 knots. Her main armament consisted of five three-inch guns.

By the time of the Second Great War, the Lamson was too old and outmoded to serve as a warship. The Navy kept her as a training vessel in Providence. George Enos, Jr. went on several training cruises on her during his basic training.
