Thomas Gainsborough in The Two Georges

Thomas Gainsborough's 1775 painting, The Two Georges, a portrait of North American colonial leader George Washington, and British monarch George III, came to symbolize the national unity of the British Empire, particularly between the North American Union and Britain.

Gainsborough took great liberties with the painting, including several important figures of the day in the painting, whether they'd been present for the actual ceremony or not. He even painted himself into it.[1]
