The Time of Troubles I (Baen, 2005) is an omnibus edition collecting the Videssos Series novels The Stolen Throne and Hammer and Anvil.
In the volume, the uneasy peace between Makuran and the Empire of Videssos disintegrates into total war. Peroz King of Kings of Makuran dies on the battlefield, leading to a power-crazed minister, Smerdis, taking the throne.
Abivard, son of Godarz, a Makuran lord who fell in the same battle, realizes that the only way to save his country (and his family) was to find to the real heir Sharbaraz and put him on the throne, even though that would mean he would be branded traitor and be hunted by every armed man who serves the usurper - and his nation's mightiest sorcerer.
