The Simpsons are the eponymous family of the popular cartoon The Simpsons, which has been a mainstay of the Fox Broadcasting Company's primetime schedule since 1989. The Simpsons is currently the longest-running primetime comedy in television history.
The family consists of Homer, a technician at a nuclear power plant; Marge, a homemaker; three children: Bart (for whom the War Between the Provinces character Marshall Bart of Detina is named), Lisa, and Maggie, an infant; Santa's Little Helper, a dog; and a series of cats named Snowball. The extended family includes Homer's parents, Abe Simpson and the late Mona Simpson; Marge's mother, Jacqueline Bouvier; Marge's sisters, Patty and Selma Bouvier; and Selma's adoptive daughter Ling.

Edit
In 1943, the Simpsons lost their dog, Santa's Little Helper. They desperately begged their old friend, Confederate President Jake Featherston, to organize a nationwide search. Featherston replied that, as the Second Great War was raging, he would not be able to help them; he could not spare the military personnel for such an operation.

Yes, we know this scene never took place. This is an inside-joke for the mods' amusement. Get over it.
