"The House That George Built" is a short story by Harry Turtledove published on-line at Tor.com in 2009. It has been reprinted in Field of Fantasies: Baseball Stories of the Strange and Supernatural, edited by Rick Wilber (2014).
The story is an alternate history in which the Baltimore Terrapins were not established in Baltimore, and so Baltimore Orioles owner Jack Dunn did not trade Babe Ruth to the Boston Red Sox, and Ruth never achieved the baseball greatness he did in OTL. The story takes place in a bar Ruth owns sometime in February 1941, as Ruth recounts his missed opportunity to H.L. Mencken.
- "The Eighth-Grade History Class Visits the Hebrew Home for the Aging", a story that's similar in structure, and focuses on an "alternate biography" of a historical figure: Anne Frank.
- "But It Does Move", another story that concentrates on altering the life of an individual rather than the whole of history, in this case Galileo Galilei.
- "Cayos in the Stream", another story alters the life of a historical figure rather than the whole of history, in this case Ernest Hemingway.
