"The Banner of Kaviyan" is a short story that appeared in the 1988 anthology Arabesques, edited by Susan Shwartz. This collection and Arabesques II contain new stories of the Arabian Nights by prominent fantasy writers. It has not been reprinted.

This story takes place about 700 CE and is about a search for the legendary Banner of Kaviyan by Shahin, a princeling of the last independent Persian principality of Tabaristan. The banner was reputed to have magical qualities that allowed an army flying it to be undefeatable. Shahin hoped to use it as a rallying point against Arab rule and to restore the Persian Empire.
