Good luck finding a picture of this non-entity, SJ. I mean, Turtle Fan.

Thanks for the good wishes, TR, it may have helped:

Zinn

On the other hand, I couldn't find a single peep on Aleksandr German and my only Nikolai Vasiliev was a logician. Are we sure they're real people?Turtle Fan 22:45, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

That's what the books said. They were in CAPS. Nicely done on Zinn. He had all of three lines in ItB, and vanished. Calling it a stub is probably unnecessary. Even a picture almost seems more trouble than it's worth. TR

Probably, but I'm pretty thorough. There are a few historicals I haven't been able to find pictures of--Kurd von Schlozer, Nick Skeres, Ingram Frizer--and it drives me ccrazy.

I know German and Vasiliev are capitalized in the list of characters, but surely a WWII general would get one mention on the entire friggin Internet. What has me suspicious is that there was indeed an Aleksandr Vasiliev who served in that war.Turtle Fan 23:17, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Suspicious how?

Suspicious that he'd transposed the names to be twee, like Daisy June Havoc. Come on, a Red Army general named German? And guess who Aleksandr Vasiliev was: The foremost authority on Byzantine history and culture of the mid-twentieth century, so HT would surely be very familiar with him.

While we're on the subject of dubious historicals, I've never once heard of a real Nieh Ho-Ting, and I've studied the Long March fairly in-depth.Turtle Fan 04:22, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

But wasn't that during the period in HT's career when he was saving his tweeness for TCotTSD, etc.? I don't know. He might have looked at some list of Russian regiments and pulled a couple of names that sounded good.

He was so good at finding historicals for that series, why couldn't he come up with someone easier to find? (Though I did have some difficulty finding a Kurt Chill bio.) On the other hand, there were tweedoms in that series: "If the Lizards drop one bomb, two bombs, five bombs on us, we will drop ten bombs, twenty bombs, fifty bombs on them," for instance.Turtle Fan 16:47, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

TR, I see this page is locked, and I confess I'm a bit curious as to why you feel he needs it. He's so obscure his own parents probably wouldn't recognize the name. Turtle Fan 21:19, September 27, 2009 (UTC)

And for added interest, Zinn was born in Berlin, Ontario (1906, before the name change). ML4E (talk) 20:48, September 29, 2015 (UTC)
