Not 100% certain it was set in 2097--as I think about it, the only story where HT gave the specific year was IHP, which was 2096. Since DSA referenced the events of IHP as being the prior year, then we can safely presume it was set in 2097. But those are the most concrete.
But getting back to TV-WW: I settled on the 2097 date because we are told several times that the nuclear was 130 years prior, and that the war came in 1967. HT has been known to round up or down on things like that, so the book could be 2098 or 2099, but the best evidence points to 2097. TR (talk) 18:02, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

As I recall the story, Westside soldiers counter-attacked later in the book through a wilderness area that was just past the ruins of an old Interstate the The Valley soldiers (including Dan) were stationed at.
