Talk:Titus Hackett

From Turtledove

Two things:

First, the police file indicates that George was the younger brother of Edward VIII and was the Duke of Kent so he never was the king. The wives of the two prince grandsons are obviously references to Diana and Sarah Ferguson who were up to mischief of that sort in OTL 1995. Also, during the scene at Hackett's print shop Bushell says that the two are from the cadet branch of the royalty. I am sorry to say this but it leads me to conclude that King Charles III is not OTL Prince Charles.

Second, I seem to be revealing plot developments in articles for minor characters who were involved with them. Here with Hackett since this and a scene with another suspect leads Bushell to the QCIs and previously with Sergeant Singh on the crime itself. If there are no objections, I will continue to do so rather than add them to the Bushell article. I will add a skeleton description to fill it out but will leave details like "Easter Eggs" in obscure articles. ML4E 01:59, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to dredge this up, but I just realized that George, Duke of Kent was a seperate brother from King George VI, who's given name was Albert (George was one of his middle names). TR 16:38, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

Do you think HT knew this or goofed up based on the name? ML4E 04:23, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Could be. It's counter-intuitive that Albert would call himself George VI, and so HT might have missed it. Don't have the book handy, so I can't say for sure. TR 05:28, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
The real George, Duke of Kent (the most recent one, anyway; there have been several, and the heir apparent will add another) died in 1942 (almost but not quite early enough to make George V a Grieving Parent, much to my disappointment). However he died in a freak accident, which is of course the soul of ease to butterfly into oblivion. In 1995 he would have been pretty damned old, though. Turtle Fan 06:23, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
Necromancy: Yes, since airplanes were not the preferred means of air travel in this TL, he probably lived a while longer. Based on other articles (I wish I could say I remember, but I don't), he was probably dead by the time of the events of the novel. TR 15:45, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
