This is a rather annoying gaffe. Monarchs didn't attend theaters in this era--too gauche. If they wanted to see a play that badly, they commissioned private showings. Turtle Fan 04:22, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Given that Elizabeth owed her freedom to the performance in the Theatre, she probably didn't care so much about image. TR 17:33, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Elizabeth I didn't care about image?? But it wasn't a matter of snobbishness, it was just the natural order of things for monarchs to stay segregated. Turtle Fan 19:41, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Fine. TR 20:11, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I'm just annoyed, is all. In my Shakespeare class in college, someone asked the prof if James VI and I had seen Macbeth at the Globe, and the prof reacted as though stung. He really drilled into us that that would have been a huge breech of protocol. So perhaps I overvalue it, as I do the rule against splitting infinitives thanks to grammar school English teachers who made split infinitives their special crusade.
