I was going to say that the line whence the title of the story is drawn, "How should I know? We haven't got there yet," is iambic pentameter. But while it's ten syllables, and the better-known half (or three-fifths) is iambic, "How should I know?" is trochaic, isn't it? Turtle Fan 03:15, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

You know, Stoppard really should have used blank verse. It would have been most appropos. Turtle Fan 17:26, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I read somewhere that Stoppard was trying to show how limiting language can be. Blank verse would probably have run counter to that purpose. TR 17:29, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Or the opposite could have been true. If the characters couldn't figure out how to scan whatever they wanted to say, they couldn't say it. Have poor little R and G and their pathetic friends surrounded by far cleverer people who can spit out great monologues, and they struggle to make their presence known. Sounds limiting enough to me.
