Did he have this Tahitian marriage before or after he ended his other marriage? If after, then that's not polygamy, that's serial monogamy.

Even if he did . . . I may be splitting hairs, or I may be wrong about this completely, but I was given to understand that polygamy referred to a situation in which more than two spouses made up a single household (think of Brigham Young. Bigamy is essentially the criminal definition of polygamy in places that don't recognize polygamy. The structure (two nuclear families versus everyone living under the same roof) isn't relevant. Just being married to more than one person is enough. TR (talk) 16:20, October 16, 2015 (UTC)
