"The character of Clarence Potter is loosely modeled on the historical Admiral Canaris, who headed Nazi Germany's Intelligence service, but disliked Hitler's Nazi Party - being a Conservative German patriot rather than a Nazi. The same could be said of Potter's attitude to Featherston's Freedom Party. However, many details of Potter's career are different from those of Canaris - most significantly, Canaris became involved in the plot to overthrow Hitler and got executed, while Potter kept out of the military plot against Featherston and survived into the post-war world."
This lit-com is essentially "Potter is based on Canaris except when he isn't". If there is some specific statement from HT that he had Canaris in mind, it can stand, but as it exists now, it has no value to anyone who reads the Potter article. TR (talk) 20:06, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed. When I find old lit comms like this I find I have less and less patience for them. Indeed for anyone saying how X element of fiction is based on Y element of real life. Obviously I make exceptions for stories like WBtP or the stand-ins for real world ballplayers in HoD, but otherwise, I've had quite enough. Turtle Fan (talk) 07:21, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
