Upcoming AH in '09Edit
One of the few things for which '08 was a good year was alternate history. MwIH, USA, V-WW, ItCotCK, OoE, BF, and even those anthologies of Star Trek novellas set in other universes where historical events broke differently all come to mind for me, and I'm sure I'm missing some.
What will '09 hold for the genre? Hitler's War is the only one I know of that's got a hard-and-fast release date and is available for preorder. We can assume the third Atlantis book will come out at the end of the year, though it's yet to be announced. The second BF book might also be due, though given how finicky the last one was in getting released, I'm not holding my breath. (I hope it comes out on a regular schedule, though; I enjoyed the first one rather more than I'd expected to.) I've not heard a peep on the subject recently, but Birmo has hinted he's not done with the AoT timeline. And as always there's so much overwhelming Evidence! that TL-191 will be continued till the end of time that there's really no point in imagining any other possibility--even though that's what AH is all about. I decided to expand the examples of Turtledove's works to each of the types given with a short explanation of them. Any other things to add to the article to make it more comprehensive? ML4E (talk) 19:24, December 16, 2016 (UTC)
Detina and DarknessEdit
Detina and Darkness aren't alternate histories, are they? Aren't they entirely fantasy creations which happen to use ACW and WWII as story templates? They probably shouldn't be listed in this article as they don't fit it's definition of AH.JonathanMarkoff (talk) 20:57, December 31, 2016 (UTC)
- They are not AH, no. In Derlavai there are a few differences in the obvious parallels that are thought-provoking, but it's not the same thing. The only difference of any sort in Detina is the role of Alva, which was so out of place that it took me quite some time to realize he was Edison. He was too young to write much of an AH about him as a Civil War military engineer, but even were that not the case, it's not AH. Turtle Fan (talk) 05:55, January 2, 2017 (UTC)
