During the Second Great War, the U.S. Army established a military hospital outside Syracuse. In 1941-42, Colonel Irving Morrell recuperated in this hospital from a shoulder wound received in a Confederate assassination attempt. During his stay, he was visited by Colonel John Abell who informed him of his promotion to General.
