Stars and Stripes was a critical source of information to the American forces occupying Germany after World War II. Early on, it honestly reported the actions taken against US troops by the German Freedom Front. It also reported on the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Stars and Stripes was the periodical of the United States Army. As such, it was a propaganda organ, touting U.S. victories over the Confederacy, especially as the C.S. fell in the last years of the Second Great War.
