Spotsylvania Courthouse is an unincorporated community and the county seat of Spotsylvania County, Virginia, located ten miles southwest of Fredericksburg. Recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census designated place (CDP), the population was 3,833 at the 2000 census.

Spotsylvania was the nearest town to where Jonathan Moss was captured after his fighter was shot down. CS troops in Lieutenant Jenkins' platoon captured Moss and Jenkins' superior ordered that Moss be taken to the Spotsylvania jail to be held until he could be shipped to the POW camp at Andersonville, Georgia.
