The Spanish Legion (Spanish: Legión Española or simply La Legión) is an elite unit of the Spanish Army. It was created following the suggestion of José Millán Astray in 1920 as the Spanish Foreign Legion, as he whished to form a professional army in the mold of the French Foreign Legion, but foreigners never made more than 25% of the recruits and most of these came from countries that had been Spanish colonies until recently, like Cuba.

The Spanish Legion in The War That Came Early Edit

The Spanish Foreign Legion and its leader José Millán Astray seconded General José Sanjurjo's coup in 1936. Its powerful motto "Long live Death!" was sometimes used by other Nationalist commanders in their harangues, such as Bernardo Uribe.
