The Six Years' War was a war fought a generation before the Derlavaian War. It was fought between Algarve on one side and an alliance of Unkerlant, Jelgava, Valmiera, Lagoas, and Sibiu on the other. After a long and costly war on both sides, Algarve was defeated and was forced to agree to a very harsh peace by its enemies that included the cession of eastern Forthweg and additional territory to create the Duchy of Bari under Duke Alardo.

Mezentio, Crown Prince of Algarve at the time, would always remember the deep humiliation to which his father and his kingdom had been subjected after the war, and was determined that one day he would avenge Algarve against its enemies.
