|President of Iran|
POD: Set in the future
|Type of Appearance:||Direct (via television)|
The President of Iran was a skinny, swarthy and short man with black hair and a close-cropped graying beard. He typically wore a Western-style jacket with an open dress shirt and without a necktie.
He was seen on MSNBC by Rob Ferguson lecturing the U.S. on its evil ways after the Yellowstone Supervolcano erupted. The President spoke in Farsi during a live broadcast from a mosque in the holy city of Qom with the Grand Ayatollah beside him. He emphasized how the U.S. was the Great Satan for its wicked war against Islam and for its support of the "Zionist entity" and how the volcanic eruption was God's punishment. He then beseeched Americans to embrace the teachings of the glorious Prophet Muhammad.
Rob remarked to Justin Nachman that he was channeling Pat Robertson who replied that it was nice to see that the U.S. didn't have the loony market covered. Rob then added that you knew you were screwed when the Iranians laughed at you and you could abandon all hope if the North Koreans do likewise.
The Iranians took advantage of the Americans' weakened state to launch a nuclear strike against Tel Aviv in Israel. They underestimated the capacity of the Israelis, who retaliated with like attacks on both Tehran and Qom. When the war news first broke in the American media, it was unknown whether the Iranian President was still alive.
The description of this President is broadly similar to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who held the office at the time the Supervolcano series was being written.
