Peter Turney in Southern Victory
Edit
Peter Turney organized the 1st Tennessee Regiment, Provisional Army, CSA., and served as a colonel of this regiment in the War of Secession.
By 1881 and the Second Mexican War, Turney was a brigadier general commanding the Army of Kentucky. During the Siege of Louisville his command was superseded by the arrival of General Thomas Jackson. Although relegated to second in command, Turney didn't mind, and he served Jackson faithfully for the duration of the siege.
Like many Confederates, Turney was worried about manumitting the slaves and wondered how the Confederacy would be able to defend itself without them.
