Type of Appearance: Direct
Nationality: Forthweg
Occupation: Monarch of Forthweg

Penda was King of Forthweg at the onset of the Derlavaian War.[1] When his kingdom was conquered by Algarve and Unkerlant, he went into exile. He requested asylum from King Tsavellas of Yanina and was imprisoned in Patras. He escaped along with Fernao and Cornelu to Lagoas, where he remained in exile throughout the remainder of the war and beyond.

After the war, King Swemmel of Unkerlant announced that he was reconstituting the Forthwegian monarchy, and some assumed Penda would return. However, Swemmel gave the crown of Forthweg to Beornwulf I instead. Penda raged against the pretender-king from Lagoas but never managed to return to Forthweg.

Editorial note

Penda is broadly analogous to the members of the pre-1939 government of Poland, who escaped to London after the Nazi German occupation of their country and who remained there after the end of the World War II, while the Soviet Union installed a Communist government in Poland.
