Mongolia

Mongolia was a country in central Asia. In the 1930s it became a de facto vassal state of the Soviet Union thanks to aggressive intervention in the Mongolian Communist Party's internal affairs by Joseph Stalin, a practice which was criticized by anti-Stalinist Mongolian Communists as "red imperialism." Mongolians fought alongside the Red Army against Japan in 1938, but despite their vassal status they had not followed Moscow into the Allied Forces by 1942. (In OTL, Mongolia would join the Allies in the summer of 1945.)

Long before the events of the twentieth century, Mongolia was the seat of the extremely powerful Mongol Empire.

Mongolia quickly fell to the Race during their initial invasion in 1942. It remained under the Race's control under the terms of the Peace of Cairo. It bordered the independent Soviet Union in the north and China in the south. Under Vyacheslav Molotov, the Soviets smuggled massive amounts of weapons to China through Mongolia.
