Mickey Charles Mantle (October 20, 1931 - August 13, 1995) was an American professional baseball player. He spent his major league career as starting center fielder for the New York Yankees from 1951 to 1968. He had a career batting average of .298 and hit 536 home runs. He also hit ten home runs in World Series play, the all-time record for World Series home runs. (He is in a three-way tie for most postseason home runs with fellow Yankee outfielders Reggie Jackson, whose ten home runs were hit in both the World Series and League Championship Series, and Bernie Williams, who also had opportunities to hit home runs in Divisional Series.) He was a Triple Crown winner in 1956, led the American League in home runs four times, was AL MVP in 1956, 1957, and 1962, was a 16-time All-Star (missing from the squad only in his rookie year and in 1966), won seven World Series titles, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974.

Mickey Mantle in WorldwarEdit

Mickey Mantle played baseball for the Kansas City Blues in the 1950s and '60s. In 1965, Mantle and the Blues were playing a televised game against the New York Yankees (which the Yeager family was watching) when the broadcast was interrupted by a news bulletin to announce that the Race had dropped an explosive-metal bomb on Indianapolis in retaliation for the attack on the Race's Colonization Fleet in 1962, and that President Earl Warren had committed suicide in response.[1]
