Mickey was a male of the Race. When the Colonization Fleet first arrived on Earth, the United States government bought two fertilized Lizard eggs from a ginger-addicted female who had become gravid with them. The eggs were entrusted to Sam Yeager. Once the eggs hatched, Yeager's assignment was to raise the hatchlings as humans. Yeager and his wife, Barbara named the two Mickey and Donald. They cared for them until Barbara's death and Sam's entrance into cold sleep, at which point Sam turned care of the two young Lizards over to his son Jonathan. Jonathan in turn left Mickey and Donald in the care of his own son, Bruce, when he signed on aboard the Admiral Peary.

On returning from Home in 2031, the Yeagers found that Mickey had become an assistant to Bruce, who managed a company which handled interspecies relations. Mickey suffered from a profound identity crisis - for example, he was sexually attracted to human females though not physically equipped to consummate any such relationship. This raised serious questions about the ethics of the experiment in which he unwillingly took part. He wrote a book about it entitled Between Two Worlds, which was translated into both English and the language of the Race. It was very well received in the United States, prompting Hollywood to begin a movie adaptation.
