The Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet, designed by Alexander Lippisch, was a German rocket-powered fighter aircraft. It is the only rocket-powered fighter aircraft ever to have been operational. Its design was revolutionary, and the Me 163 was capable of performance unrivaled at the time.

Over 300 aircraft were built; however, the Komet proved ineffective as a fighter, having been responsible for the destruction of only about nine Allied aircraft during World War II.

Me-163 in WorldwarEdit

The Komet fighter first took to the air in late 1943. After the failed invasion of England, the Race continued with its offensive from southern France toward the Rhine River. As they pushed closer toward Germany, Race Killercraft came under attack from the rocket fighter.

Its appearance baffled Race pilots who couldn't help but wonder how it was able to stabilise itself with no tail. They also couldn’t help but wonder what fuel it ran on as Komets that were shot down exploded spectacularly.
