Maria Tresca was a Catholic Socialist from New York City. She was friends with Congresswoman Flora Blackford when she was still Flora Hamburger, political activist. Maria and her sister Angelina worked with Herman Bruck in the Lower East Side. Maria continued to work there even after her sister was killed at the infamous Remembrance Day Parade of 1915.

On the subject of the Socialists in Congress supporting the War for fear of losing office, She Quoted Scripture “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”.

Maria was pleased to tell Flora Blackford that she'd been elected to one more term in 1944.
