Marcel Freycinet was a French landholder in Atlantis. He owned a slave named Louise, who went to bed with General Victor Radcliff during his visit to the Marquis de La Fayette in 1777. Louise soon became pregnant, and while Freycinet was pleased to share the good news to Radcliff, on campaign around Hanover, he was unwilling to sell Louise and her son Nicholas Radcliff (born into slavery) to Radcliff, as he was afraid he would lose out on whatever profits he made from their labor.

Worried that his first letter might not reach the general at his headquarters, Monsieur Freycinet sent a copy of it to Radcliff's farm, where it was intercepted by his Radcliffe's wife, Meg.
