Long Beach in The House of Daniel[]

Long Beach was a suburb of Los Angeles, and a city on to itself, although many didn't realize this. It was also home to many semipro baseball teams, mostly company sponsored ones. The House of Daniel arrived in Long Beach on the evening of August 8, 1934.[2]

That night a vampire knocked on Jack Spivey and Eddie Lelivelt's window with promises of release from bourgeois respectability and gaining Hollywood stardom. Spivey, who was already tired and angry, drove it away with his cross.[3]

The next day, the House of Daniel played the Shell Oilers, a company team for Shell Oil, who beat the House badly, 12-5.[4] On August 10, the House played the Chancelor Canfield/Midway Oil. It became a hardball game quickly, and saw two brawls, but the House won 9-1.[5]

Long Beach in "Topanga and the Chatsworth Lancers"[]

In the Changed world, the economy of Long Beach was helped by their resource of sea salt, which could be ingested to prevent goiters. Inlanders had to pay through the nose for it.[6]
