Kurt Haldweim (1918-2010) was the third Führer of the Greater German Reich.[1] He served in that position for longer than anyone except for Adolf Hitler himself.
Haldweim died at the age of 91 after a series of illnesses and recuperations.[2] He was an autocratic ruler, but nowhere to the extent of his predecessors, Hitler and Heinrich Himmler.[3]
Haldweim was born in Austria, and served in the Second World War.[4]
Literary Note
Edit
Haldweim was based on the historical Kurt Waldheim (1918-2007). Presumably, Turtledove changed the character's name as Waldheim was still living at the time In the Presence of Mine Enemieswas written.
