Kurt Haldweim (1918-2010) was the third Führer of the Greater German Reich.[1] He served in that position for longer than anyone except for Adolf Hitler himself.

Haldweim was born in Austria before it united with Germany, and served in the Second World War.[2]

Haldweim died at the age of 91 after a series of illnesses and recuperations.[3] He was an autocratic ruler, but nowhere to the extent of his predecessors, Hitler and Heinrich Himmler.[4] His somewhat lighter touch inadvertently laid the foundation for his successor, Heinz Buckliger.

Upon his death in 2010, Haldweim lay in state in the Great Hall. Much of the population of Berlin was allowed to pass through the Hall to view the body and pay their respects.[5]

Literary NoteEdit

Haldweim is loosely based on the historical Kurt Waldheim (1918-2007), 4th Secretary General of the United Nations (1972-1981) and 9th President of Austria (1986-1992). Prior to his election to the presidency, evidence was brought to light that Waldheim was complicity in Nazi war crimes.
