Konrad de Buys, one of the Rivington Men, was part of the contingent that arrived at Orange Court House with the first shipment of AK-47s. He was an avid horseman and was keen to join up with Jeb Stuart's cavalry, both to train them in the new rifle and to fight. Stuart described de Buys as wilder in battle than any of Stand Watie's Cherokee warriors in the Trans-Mississippi Department.[1] After the Second American Revolution, he settled in Rivington, North Carolina. On March 4, 1868, he participated in the Richmond Massacre, and he was the only assassin who survived the massacre. However, he was expected to be hanged soon after, if he didn't die from his infected wounds first.
