The Wright Brothers with their Flyer at Kitty Hawk, December 1903.

Kitty Hawk is a town in Dare County, North Carolina. It became famous after the Wright Brothers of Ohio selected the nearby site of Kill Devil Hills to launch their first controlled powered airplane flights on December 17, 1903.

Kitty Hawk in WorldwarEdit

With its strong connection to American aviation, Kitty Hawk was the logical choice to become the home of the United States Air and Space Force's orbital missions base in the 1950s. Glen Johnson was among several "spacemen" who on a daily basis launched, orbited the Earth several times, and then landed again.[1]
