Jeb Stuart III (18??-1915) was a captain in the Confederate Army during the Great War. He commanded an artillery battery in the First Richmond Howitzers. A grandson of Jeb Stuart, Jeb III's aristocratic lineage promised a meteoric rise in the ranks of the CS Army's officer corps. However, when Jake Featherston, a sergeant in his battery, found reason to suspect that Stuart's manservant, Pompey, was a socialist and was highly placed in the Red Rebellion, Stuart ran interference to prevent the Army of Northern Virginia's Intelligence Corps from investigating him. Had he not done so it is entirely possible that the rebellion would have never occurred.

Major Clarence Potter of ANV Intelligence promised to ruin young Stuart's career as a result. Stuart became depressed. In an effort to regain his honor or die trying, Stuart exposed himself to US fire in Pennsylvania, and was killed.

Sergeant Featherston assumed command of the battery but was denied an officer's commission by Stuart's father, Jeb Stuart Jr., who blamed Featherston (and Potter, who was also passed over for promotion) for his son's death. This began Featherston's enmity with the Stuart family and the Confederate aristocracy in general.
