Jasper is a specialized municipality in western Alberta, Canada. It is the commercial center of Jasper National Park, located in the Canadian Rockies in the Athabasca River valley. According to the 2001 census, Jasper had a population of 4,180.

Colonel Thomas Bushell's train entered the Province of Albertus via Jasper. He remarked on the cold beauty of the mountainous scenery to Captain Samuel Stanley. Stanley replied that if the Swedish fashion for sliding through snow on two boards tied to your feet ever caught on, this would be the place to indulge in that activity.[1]
