James Smith was a delegate to the Second Continental Congress from the colony/state of Pennsylvania. He signed the Declaration of Independence. He is buried at the First Presbyterian Church in York, PA.
When Peggy Druce spoke at the First Presbyterian Church in York in 1941, her host, Loretta Conway, mentioned that James Smith was buried in the churchyard. Peggy failed to hide the fact that she was unimpressed, and Mrs Conway realized that, as a Philadelphian, sites of historical significance from the era of the American Revolution would not have impressed her. Mrs Conway therefore did not offer to show Peggy Smith's grave, though Peggy would have allowed her to for politeness's sake if she had wanted.[1]
