Jack Scholes was a private in Staff Sergeant Alistair Walsh's company in Belgium in 1943-4. He was a short, skinny Cockney who reminded Walsh of a mean terrier.[1] In the summer of 1943, Scholes and Pvt. Gordon McAllister received training in a new American weapon called the bazooka. Scholes carried the launch tube while McAllister carried a supply of rockets in a sack. The two used it almost immediately, with Scholes taking out a German machine gun emplacement and a Panzer IV with two well placed shots.[2]
