Lieutenant Jack Hadley was U.S. Navy pilot from somewhere in the Midwest.

Lt. Hadley was stationed on the Yorktown during the US Navy's first attempt to re-take the Hawaiian Islands from the Japanese. During the ensuing battle, his Wildcat was shot down, resulting in a pronounced limp that forced him to carry a cane, and nasty burn scar, that could be seen from below his left shirt cuff. After being rescued he returned to the US mainland where he toured the flight schools, giving lectures on the Zero and how best to deal with it.

Attending one such lecture Joe Crosetti saw that the lieutenant would fidget nervously and space out when reliving his combat experience. He also wondered, after seeing the man's scar and limp, if Hadley would ever see action again.[1]
