The Iroquois Scouts were a regiment from The Six Nations made up entirely of Iroquois. The Scouts were renowned throughout the British Empire for their military abilities. Captain Samuel Stanley thought highly of them too, ranking them with the Gurkha Rifles and so excusing the Iroquois the discomfort he felt on arriving in Doshoweh and seeing signs in both English and Iroquois.[1]
