Independence Hall

Independence Hall is the centerpiece of Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The building was built in 1753. During the 1770s, the First and Second Continental Congresses met there until Philadelphia fell to the British Army, and it was here that the sovereignty of the United States was first asserted when the Declaration of Independence was written, debated, and ratified by the Second Continental Congress. It was also the meeting place of the Constitutional Convention, which authored the Constitution.

Independence Hall was destroyed during the Third World War after Philadelphia was destroyed by an atomic bomb. The victorious German troops collected the Liberty Bell, now a melted and twisted radioactive wreck, and sent it back to Berlin for display in the Soldier's Hall.[1]

During his time on the General Staff during the Great War, Irving Morrell made a point of going to Independence Hall to see the Liberty Bell. John Abell joined him. Both men were moved upon seeing the Bell.[2]
