The IJN Tanikaze was a Kagero-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. On 9 June 1944, Tanikaze was torpedoed and sunk by USS Harder (SS-257) in Sibutu Passage near Tawitawi, 90 miles (170 km) southwest of Basilan.

IJN Tanikaze in Days of Infamy[]

The IJN Tanikaze was part of the destroyer screening force on the western side of the task force that struck Hawaii in December of 1941. During the fleet battle of the invasion of Hawaii, the Tanikaze spotted an incoming US carrier force heading for the fleet and radioed it back to the Akagi.
