Hugo is an unincorporated community in Marengo County, Alabama.
Hugo in Southern VictoryEdit
A Negro was accused of raping a white woman in Hugo shortly after the Second Great War ended. U.S. troops, Armstrong Grimes leading them, prevented a lynch-mob from dragging the Negro off and murdering him.
Hugo was restive in other ways. U.S. troops frequently had to take and execute hostages when the citizens attacked the occupying soldiers. Hugo also attempted a boycott. This was broken quickly when U.S. troops began rounding up the participating merchants and shipping them off to prison camps.
