Honolulu Hale (originally called the Honolulu Municipal Building), located on
530 South King Street in downtown Honolulu in the City & County of Honolulu, Hawaii, is the official seat of government of the city and county, site of the chambers of the Mayor of Honolulu and the Honolulu City Council.
Honolulu Hale in Days of Infamy[]
In 1943, during the Japanese occupation of Hawaii, Oscar van der Kirk visited the "special cases" office at Honolulu Hale in the hopes of learning the whereabouts of Charlie Kaapu. He informed by a clerk, Alfred Choi, that Charlie was taken away by the Kempeitai and that there was nothing he could do to help him.
During the American reconquest of Hawaii, the Honolulu Hale was turned into a fortress by the remaining Japanese, who wanted to make a last stand. The Honolulu Hale was reduced to ruins by artillery bombardment and tank gunfire, leaving American Marines and soldiers to clear out the Japanese survivors with flamethrowers and bayonets.
