Himilkon was a Phoenician merchant who maintained a warehouse in Rhodes. He was a shrewd operator, and often procured exotic items for sale. Menedemos and Sostratos and their respective families frequently did business with Himilkon.
In 310 BC, just prior to their first solo trading voyage, Menedemos and Sostratos purchased peafowl from Himilkon, after Himilkon first displayed his only peacock, and let it run wild.[1]
