Hank Coomer was a Confederate general. In 1941 he commanded the Army of Northern Virginia. Coomer was in command when a US army under Daniel MacArthur began an advance on Richmond in 1941. It was under Coomer that the US army's advance was slowed to a crawl, then halted altogether at the Battles of Fredericksburg. However, Coomer's fame was overshadowed by that of George Patton, who commanded the ANV's armored forces during the heaviest fighting on the Virginia front.
