HMS Glorious was the second of the Courageous-class cruisers built for the Royal Navy during World War I. Glorious was completed in late 1916 and spent the war patrolling the North Sea. Glorious was paid off after the end of the war, but was rebuilt as an aircraft carrier during the late 1920s. When World War II began, Glorious had a rather unsuccessful career until in April 1940 when she was used to support the Allied Forces in Norway. While evacuating British aircraft from Norway in June, the ship was sunk by the German battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau in the North Sea with the loss of over 1,200 lives.

HMS Glorious was one of the two aircraft carriers that provided air support for the Allies, during the German invasion of Norway. Later, as the campaign turned against them, Glorious was overwhelmed and sunk by Kriegsmarine battlewagons before she could escape.
Literary Comment[]
Although Glorious is not mentioned by name during the Norwegian Campaign in West and East, Julius Lemp talks about a British aircraft carrier that suffers an identical fate to that of Glorious in OTL.
