Greenland, officially called Kalaallit Nunaat, is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. It is the largest island on Earth. Though physiographically a part of the continent of North America, Greenland has been politically and culturally associated with Europe. From the 11th through 14th centuries, it was a colony of Norway.
Greenland was home to both American and British weather stations. Military garrisons guarding these stations frequently engaged in small skirmishes during the Second Great War.
