Glendale in The Hot War[]

Despite its close proximity to Los Angeles, Glendale was not destroyed or even seriously damaged by the Soviet atomic bombs deployed against L.A. on March 2, 1951. Residential windows were destroyed, for example, but utilities remained working for the most part.[1]

Local resident Aaron Finch became a minor celebrity after he captured a Soviet flyer who'd parachuted from his bomber and landed in Glendale.[2]
